8 Mei 2011

The new school term is coming up, and perhaps it’s time to get computer for your studying (and entertainment) needs. The next step is to decide whether to get a notebook, also called a laptop, or a desktop style computer. Each  comes with significant advantages and disadvantages, and which one is better will depend on your needs and preferences. Here are quick tips to help you make your decision.

Desktop
Advantages :
-          Best value compared to laptop (typically, more speed, memory, and storage at a lower price).
-          Relatively difficult to steal.
-          Relatively easy to expand or modify as needs change.
-          Flat screen LCD monitors are now reasonably priced, reducing desk space requirements and making storage/shipping easier.

Disadvantages :
-          Space consuming.
-          Awkward to move to and from one.
-          Can’t be carried to library or classes.
-          Difficult to transport when repair/replacement is needed.

Laptop
Advantages :
-          Easy to transport to and from school.
-          Takes up little space to store and to use.
-          Can be carried around to class or library for note-taking, study, etc.
-          Can easily be used to connect to Wi-Fi services (for the internet connection), which are easily found around major cities nowadays.

Disadvantages :
-          Easier to misplace, making it easier to lose or get stolen.
-          Easier to accidentally break.
-          Significantly more expensive for comparable speed and capacity.
-          Has limited expansion and add-on capabilities.
